Go to Windows Run prompt (use the search box on Vista) and type:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -ProfileManager and press enter.
If you are in Linux go to command prompt and type firefox -ProfileManager
You will be prompted with a window to manage your profile. as shown below. Here you can go for "Create Profile" section.

Once you press "Create Profile" button you will be provided with a wizard for creating a new profile.

Type the name of your new profile and press "Finish". This will create a new profile for your Firefox.

Remember to un-check the option "Don't ask at startup"
Now you can decide which profile to use while starting up your Firefox web browser. Usually people install all the required add-ons in one profile and another profile will be kept without installing unnecessary add-ons. It is true that installing unknown and untrusted Firefox add-ons may slow down Firefox performance.
