Still room for new e-mail service provider?

I was in a notion that it's almost impossible for a new email service provider to get an edge in the e-mail service providing sector, where big players like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Lycos are already dominated. But I knew that a well coordinated and planned advertising can make anything possible.

World's smallest email id service provider in.com is an example for this exception. In.com was venture made by TV18 group that hit the mail service industry, to make their presence felt. And they succeeded in their mission. Within a short span, after their launch they are able to gather more than 3 million users. It became a success, as the internet users are increasing day by day across the globe and many are interested to have more than one email account also.

So if there is a support of proper advertising, we can witness many more IN.com like services in future.

Help yourself to fight SPAM and fraud Mails

In spite of great spam filters running behind the mail service providers, spammers are succeeding new and INNOVATIVE methods to spread spam mails. Some spammers make use of resembling word arts to canvas their products and to steal personal information from users. Some even fake the email ids of big internet players to send spam and fraud mails.

I do receive hundreds of spam mails per day, but thanks to GMail Spam filter, which is very intelligent to cut the line between actual mails and spam mails. There are few tips that can help you fight spam and fraud mails.

As soon as you get mail that claims to be sent by big internet or business players, like lottery and casino stuffs, which you cannot believe or even any other mail asking you to reveal your personal and financial details, try inspecting the from mail address and reply-to address of the received email. You could see a claim to be genuine from address, but most of the cases the reply-to address would be fake and does not match with that of from address. Once you understood that the mail you received is a spam, then report it to your mail service provider by clicking "Report Spam" button (in GMail) and similar buttons in the inbox of other mail service providers.

Another tip is to login to your mail account more frequently, at least once per day, so that the spam filtering engine can properly execute the filter through your mails. Also never reveal your email address in any of the forums or groups, unless it is absolutely necessary.

Google adds theme support to your GMail

There was an opinion among yahoo and hotmail lovers about GMail, that it looks so primitive and plain when it comes to visual appealing. But now its the time to change the way GMail has been perceived, based its look and feel. Now you can have 30 and increasing themes for your GMail inbox.

This new feature comes just after a revolutionary introduction of browser based video and voice chat in GMail. I have chosen the blue theme to my GMail inbox, and it looks awesome. Its indeed a very nice to see Orkut like themes in GMail.

If you want to change your GMail theme, then click the settings link on top right corner in your GMail inbox and select the Themes tab. Now its your choice to make selection among those cool themes.

Most of the Windows users in Offices are well aware of Microsoft Remote Desktop connection, which was prominent from Windows XP onwards. Now Microsoft has extended the Remote Desktop connection to further realms, not just to your PC. Video Chat within Web Browser: Now have it in your GMail

After a long wait, Google launched its video and audio chat facility within the web browser. Only requirement is that, you have to download and install the video chat gmail-videochat plug-in. Once you are done with installation, just restart your web browser to experience the video chat within your GMail inbox. The GMail video chat works well in all the prominent web browers like IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome. You doesn't have to install any separate plug-in for each browser.

Well, the GMail video chat offers a high quality video and audio experience at free of cost. In fact, this facility would help to improve the productivity of most of the business activities. More over, its being a free service the cost incurred in video conferencing can also be reduced. I think Google launched the video chat in the right hour, where people are running for cost cutting approaches in their business. And another boon would be, ban lift of GMail in offices and work places, thus making GMail and its video chat unofficially an official medium for communication at work place.

But ,all this happenings are around GMail web chat only, and not with our GTalk. If we make a closer look at Google's strategies, its evident that desktop centric softwares are not so prominent in Google business strategies, rather they would like to have everything under their server hood. Or, I doubt whether Google differentiates applications whether they are on desktop or in web. In the Google sense the gap between desktop and web applications are almost zero.

I feel, GMail chat would be the countable gift from Google to it users as a part of their 10th anniversary celebrations.

View classic explorer menus in Windows Vista, without changing the default theme

In the default theme of Windows Vista its hard to find out our good old classic windows explorer menus. So it will be bit uneasy for one who is much used to the classic menus in windows explorer. Of course, you can have all your classic look and menus back in Windows Vista, by disabling the default theme and changing it to classic windows theme.

But there is better way of getting the classic menus in windows vista explorer without changing its default theme. Its pretty simple, once you are in the windows explorer just press "ALT" key once. Now you can see your good old classic menus just below the address bar.

Is GMail moving towards a Google Web OS ?

In recent years if you look at the GMail labs activities, it will become evident that Google is pushing more features in the new version of GMail. Now you can add any Google gadgets to your GMail. Recently Google integrated its Calendar gadget, Docs and Spread sheet gadgets with GMail, which has already hosting its IM chats.

Then, what does GMail lack to become a primary version of Web OS, I guess it need to have a File Manager Gadget, a window manager gadget and a facility to minimize GMail mail section, incorporating an audio player and of course our YouTube. Lets hope that this would be realized soon.
