Hibernate Notebook on closing lid in Windows 7

Easy steps to hibernate your Windows 7 laptop, if you are in a hurry. You can configure the system to hibernate on closing the lid or folding the display screen.

Follow the steps below to enable hibernation in your Windows 7 Notebook or Netbook.

Step 1: Click the Windows start icon and enter "change what closing the lid does" in the search box (without those double quotes).

Step 2: Click on the link shown in the search result of the start menu.

Step 3: Select the "Hibernate" option for the "When I close the lid" power and sleep buttons and lid settings.

Microsoft has announced the preview of its Internet Explorer 9, which is under development. The final release is expected in 2011.

IE team will be putting more effort to improve the performance of IE9 and making the browser compatible with new standards, especially in the areas of vector graphics, CSS3 and HTML5.

IE 9 will take the full advantage of your hardware with background compiled JavaScript, it will also support interoperability with the latest web standards. They also given more importance to GPU powered HTML5 graphics.

In order to use the Windows Speech Recognition(WSR) Macros you need to have a microphone, minimum RAM of 1GB. Before using the WSR Macros you need to complete the Microphone Wizard and the Windows Speech Recognition tutorial to ensure that your microphone is properly set-up and to help the speech engine become adapted to your voice.
And of course a PC with a genuine copy of Windows Vista (x86 or x64). Currently, only US English-language editions of Windows are supported.

Microsoft Speed Launch from Office Labs: An alternative to Launchy

You might be well aware of Launchy, desktop utility available to the windows PC to launch programs without using the windows start menu and with few keystrokes.

Now Microsoft Corporation also made an initiative to provide a Launchy like desktop utility for Windows PCs. The utility named Microsoft Speed Launch can help the windows users to invoke selected programs as per the users choice. Once you install Microsoft Speed Launch a DART like icon will appear in the Desktop. If you wish to add a shortcut to the Microsoft Speed Launch utility, so that you can invoke the an application with few keystrokes, you need to drag the required shortcut icons to the DART icon of the Microsoft Speed Launch. The keyboard shortcut for launching the command window for Microsoft Speed Launch is "Windows Key + C".

To make its presence felt and to establish a bigger internet market footprint, live search team is trying all the possible ways. Initially they have started offering monetary benefits to its users for using their search features.

Advertisement for Firefox 3 in Live search result

While was trying some search keywords related to Firefox 3 in Live search engine, I happened to notice a very important advertisement. It is nothing but an advertisement of Firefox 3 on top of all Live search results. I just entered "firefox 3 download" as the search key.

Even though Microsoft may be gaining some dollars through this advertisement, its like a two edged sword. Most of the live search queries are coming from Internet explorer with Live.com as default search engine. This advertisement is trying to convert the existing IE users to Firefox 3, in Pursuit of Dollars. I feel Microsoft Live search team need to learn some competitive ad filtering tips from Google team. Or does this shows, ice is melting?.

Have look at an another instance, where dell makes use of Hcl keyword for its laptop ad. Are you still using IE, then this is the time to change.
