The Akash tablet or UbiSlate is manufactured by DataWind and is expected to be available in the market by December 2011.
The Akash tablet will have Android 2.2 tablet operating system pre loaded. Introductory price will be around 35USD (around INR1800) for students and $60 (around INR 3000) for other retail customers.
The Akash tablet is powered by 366 MHz CPU from Connexant with Graphics accelerator and HD Video processor. It has a RAM of 256MB and 2GB internal flash memory. The external storage is supported upto 32GB.
Akash tablet has two USB2.0 standard ports and 3.5mm audio jack. It comes with 7 inch display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The touch screen is resistive instead of capacitive. So you can't experience multi-touch features.
UbiSlate supports Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g and GPRS. The 2100 mAh Li-Po battery can power the device for a continuous usage of 2-3hrs.
Documents in DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX, ODT, ODP formats can be viewed in UbiSlate. The Akash tablet also comes with PDF viewer and a Text editor. The image viewer can display images in PNG, JPG, BMP and GIF formats. It also supports MP3, AAC, AC3, WAV, WMA audio formats and MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, FLV videos.
